La notte dei ricercatori

SuperScienceMe 2023 Researchers' Night “SuperScienceMe – ReSearch is your Re-Source”, the event organized on the occasion of the European Night of Researchers, returns to the University of Calabria on Friday 29 September.

The great event - which sees Unical as the leader together with the Magna Graecia University, the Mediterranean University, the University of Basilicata, the CNR and the Calabria Region - is one of the eight Italian research night projects financed by the European Commission with the aim of creating meeting opportunities between researchers and citizens to spread scientific culture.

The Calabrian-Lucan Research Night aims to actively involve public opinion to raise awareness of the world of science through laboratory activities, scientific demonstrations, recreational and educational initiatives aimed at all age groups, exhibitions and visits to the University museums , cultural entertainment and musical shows, which will be concluded, on the occasion, by the new project “Musicae Loci” by Max Gazzè. And precisely to stimulate and bring young people closer to research, two important initiatives are planned as part of "SuperScienceMe": "Research Mission" and "Researchers in schools".

Missione Ricerca, scheduled from 9.30 am to 7.30 pm on 29 September, is a scientific tour of guided visits to the University laboratories, which can be booked online on the dedicated website www.superscienceme.it, where it is already possible to view the description of the planned activities , between experiments and demonstrations, which make up the opportunities for choice for interested visitors.

The activities are divided into five thematic areas inspired by the five European missions: Health and quality of life; Clean oceans and seas; SOS Climate; Green and Smart Cities; Healthy soil and food. Each thematic area will welcome groups of visitors who will attend and participate in the experiments. The activities are managed by the departments and structures of the University of Calabria, but there is no shortage of initiatives promoted by bodies and foundations with which the university has already started scientific collaborations: this is the case, for example, of the AIRC Foundation for research on cancer which will hold specific recreational-educational workshops for the Health and quality of life area. Researchers at Schools, on the other hand, represents a moment of direct meeting between researchers and students from Calabrian and Lucanian schools to illustrate the five EU missions on which the event is focused. In fact, in the scheduled visits, the aim will be to involve students with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) disciplines and research through informal learning contexts. While waiting for the "European Night", two particular initiatives are planned as a prologue: it is "Experiment in the ward" which will be held on Friday 22 September at the Cosenza Hospital and on Monday 25 September at the Presidium he spoke about Castrovillari.

The Unical researchers and operators, accompanied by ward clowns, will meet the young hospitalized patients to involve them in scientific experiments, educational games and demonstrations, trying to give them a moment of joy and light-heartedness. The shows, during the day of September 29th, will liven up the Bucci Bridge thanks to the presence of street artists, the representation of entertaining theatrical works, and the very captivating scientific laboratories, such as those organized by the scientist actors of LEOScienza. The event will conclude, in Piazza Vermicelli, with the show "Musicae Loci", the special and original project by Max Gazzè that the Roman singer-songwriter is taking around Italy in 2023 in search of sounds, instruments and "identifying" musicians of our territory. Max Gazzè, accompanied by the Calabria Orchestra directed by Checco Pallone, will present an original production and his songs in a new guise, enriched by typical regional colors and sounds. A cultural and musical project with some of his greatest hits revisited and rearranged with traditional instruments. Over 20 musicians on stage for a unique event that encompasses the meaning and cultural value of the event. The program of the European Night of SuperScienceMe researchers, which will take place simultaneously in the four universities of the project, can be consulted by visiting the dedicated page.
