Cosenza is an Italian town of 63 561 inhabitants, capital of the province of the same name, in Calabria.
The origins of the city date back at least to the eighth century BC, when the Italian village of Kos stood on its territory, whose coins, dating back to 420 BC, are exhibited in the British Museum in London.
In the 4th century BC Consentia assumed the role of capital of the Bruzi, exercising a hegemonic role in the region until the conquest by the Romans.
From the 16th century Cosenza was designated the capital of Calabria Citeriore. The modern city is the fulcrum of an urban agglomeration including, among others, the municipality of Rende, where the campus of the University of Calabria is located.
The city covers an area of 37.86 km², at an altitude above sea level of 238 meters.
The city has a particular microclimate. Thermal inversion is almost a constant in the valley, thanks to the scarce presence of winds, it is sheltered because it is surrounded by the hills of the Catena Costiera.
The minimum temperatures reach low values, they are flanked by maximums which, especially in calm wind conditions and in the summer season, are very high.
